If you need to move loads on a building site or in a warehouse, a forklift is an invaluable tool to have.  However, with such a broad selection of styles and types to choose from, it can difficult to choose the ideal forklift for your job.

Here are some types of forklifts and their uses;

Industrial reach forklifts
Industrial reach forklifts are known for their higher lift height making them ideal for warehouses.  There are several types of forklift suitable for these scenarios. They include;

  • Stand up trucks, which are often used when there is one load bay. The two forks on the front slide beneath the loads to lift them safely.
  • Double deep trucks also suit this situation. They are similar to stand up trucks, but they have longer trucks making them ideal where multiple pallet loads are stored in each bay as they will reach the back of the bay.

Industrial counterbalance forks
Industrial counterbalance forklifts are used for indoor stores and warehouses although they can also be used indoors. They have dual forks at the front of the truck that lifts and transports the loads.  Models that are perfect for indoor stores include three-wheel models that offer better maneuverability making them reach narrow aisles.

Rough terrain forklifts
For outdoor constructions or in rough terrains you need a rough terrain forklift.  They have better stability on uneven grounds enabling them to maneuver well even in the toughest of conditions.  With such qualities, they are excellent for moving loads across difficult terrains. These models can move loads of up to 3 tons with ease.

Industrial side loader forklifts
These types of forklifts are perfectly suited to work in narrow aisles. They are mounted on the side of the truck and can pick up long or wide loads that would be difficult for other forklifts.  There are two main side loader forklifts, the stand-up version suited for indoor use and the enclosed cab commonly used outdoors.
Their wheels all rotate by 90 degrees, which allows transportation in any direction. As such, they are ideal for transporting pipes and sheet materials.
